Wonderbabes

A new presenting partnership with NORPA and The Quadrangle will see local creative and NORPA Associate Artist Kate McDowell perform her challenging one-woman show Wonderbabes, staged in a large scale tent in Lismore’s new outdoor precinct.

Kate’s writing and performance convey one young woman’s brutal test of her social and sexual capacity – it’s a thrilling ride through Byron Bay on New Year’s Eve, underpinned by a thumping original electronic score, and made visceral with acute poetic imagery. Come embed yourself in the hedonistic energy of the Northern Rivers music festival culture.

Aimed at 18 to 25-year-olds this is a show that every young person should experience. And if they’re game, their parents too. The Quad precinct will feature site lighting, open fires, inflatable furniture and an outdoor bar. “

The show is about a young woman who’s testing her limits. She’s angry and frustrated with her mother, the world, and pretty much everyone. She wants to cause trouble, get into danger, and feel something intense, to get to know herself better. It’s a two hour monologue, but it’s written as a hero’s journey, so it has that pace and structure that keeps you hanging in there.” — Kate McDowell

Wonderbabes is featured as a satellite event of the 2018 Byron Writers Festival.
