Three artists will be taking up residence in The Quad in August as part of the Plein Air Residency program. They are Kate McDowell (local) and MariaGiulia Serantoni and Andrea Parolin (Berlin Based, Italian born) to develop their new performance work Eve on Tour: Encounter on a Precarious Surface. The work is interested in exploring the manipulation of mutable object/s scaffolding pipes through movement-based explorations that toy with images of construction, support, harmony and collision and diagonals.
As part of their research and development they will be running a daily workshop from the 12th -15th August for professional and non-professional participants based on the themes and aesthetics of their research.
It will run 10am – 1pm August 12-15th, + a full day rehearsal 10-4pm August 16th.
Performances: Friday 16th and Saturday 17th 5:00pm – 6:30pm and part of the Dark Science Festival
The workshop is open to all those who identify as women.
Over the course of 5 days, the group will train together in experimental movement, body states and finding the voice, and will then research together building sculptural entities with scaffolding pipes, creating rhythm and sound between the bodies and the objects, and developing dialogues inspired by the images the labour conjures. There will also be rapturous choreographies to rock songs that celebrate love.
The group will explore the repetitive notion of ruin, evolve and become new, repeat; change is inevitable and the fragility of the immediate is assumed. Here, love is a creative force, an ignition of ‘growth’, the spawning of ‘development’ – we look at woman as pioneer, and at the feminine capacity to love in spite of herself and what role this plays. Also, the irony of the changeability of terms like ‘progress’ for different goals is wholly embraced in a playful, practical, physical exploration.
The workshop will culminate in a live performance by the group at the Dark Science Festival in The Quad on the 16th and 17th August.
